An idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by a government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico. Kate Macer leads a Phoenix based kidnap response unit for the FBI. Following Kate's team leading a raid on a known drug den in nearby Chandler, Kate is recruited to work on a special ops team led by Matt Graver of the CIA, he who is on special assignment for the Department of Defense. They recruited her because they wanted someone with tactical procedures knowledge. Outwardly, the team's mission, which works behind a Delta Force team as its primary gun power as required, is to decapitate a Mexican drug cartel by capturing or dismembering the workings of the main players, cartel head Manuel Díaz, his second in command Guillermo Díaz (Manuel's brother), and drug lord Fausto Alarcón. Kate agrees to the assignment as she feels the work of this team would be more effective in stopping the drug trade in the US than the piecemeal work of her current kidnap response unit. The third on the team is a mysterious Hispanic or Latino man Kate only knows as Alejandro, and who she does not fully trust as she can tell that he is suffering from a very traumatic past. When Kate and the team arrive in El Paso for their first mission, Kate learns that the team's workings are not all they appear on the surface - many of the proceedings which would not be considered above board or legal - despite the end goal being as she knows it to be. Still largely in the dark and only given information on a need to know basis, Kate decides to stick it out with the team if only to discover all that she is not told while still believing in the end goal. She may have changing or at least mixed emotions as she learns more and more about what is going on, including the specific reason why she was recruited. The border is just another line to cross<br/><br/>Subject to combat drug trafficking in Hollywood in most cases reduced to a confrontation template villains and valiant policemen. A good half of the movie is full of action scenes and patriotic speeches. Inevitably and division into good and bad sides. In Sicario Villeneuve you will not see such. The director has created a deep and attention to detail the political thriller, which is frightening and causes the press in the chair.<br/><br/>From the first minutes of viewing the picture presses naturalism, gently introduces the viewer into the brutal world of the fight against crime. The feeling of reality does not leave until the end of the film, and the voltage increases with each passing minute. Confronting US intelligence and Mexican punitive not like confrontation of good and evil. The spectator, like the brave heroine Emily Blunt kept in the dark, the true motives of the characters of Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro are unknown. Intrigue excellent support to the climax and culmination, in turn, is ideally links all the story lines with each other, it's worth a separate praise.<br/><br/>Yet despite all the undoubted advantages, among which are well thought out plot, frightening realism and stunning acting, I think the main advantage of the voltage that through the interaction of many factors creates a strong impact on the viewer. Since hovering over expanses of Mexican criminal chamber of the nominee for the Oscar Roger Deakins, ending mesmerizing music of Johann Yohansana, confront us with the picture, the creators of which squeezed the limit of their capabilities. As a result, we see a bloody war without rules and morality, justice advocates are doing lynching and lawlessness, but is it possible to judge them if they are struggling with the wild beasts of drug trafficking? That's only if all of these animals? How has shifted the boundary between justice and senseless slaughter?<br/><br/>No matter what kind of war in question, whether it is the war on terrorism, the war between the warring powers. There's no concept of good and evil and right there. You either accept the rules and enter into a world of wolves, where the boundaries are blurred morality, and goals are driven by revenge and anger. And there is no sense and no way to change something. To replace one, others will, closes the cycle, and the war will continue. And naive heroes Kate will always be to seek justice in this world, and will be disappointed when they came to an understanding. We can only wait for that "comes some wise guy will discourage and 20% of the population use drugs."<br/><br/>In summary I would say that the atmosphere created by the allows you to believe in the reality of the situation, in consequence, the problem takes on a frightening character. Actors create interesting and complex characters, beyond which is not boring to watch. The music video and create amazing beauty of sight, allowing to see the meaningless horrors of the modern world where children play soccer under the thunder of explosions.<br/><br/>9 out of 10<br/><br/>and one of the best films of the year. First of all, this cast is brilliant, period. Everyone nails their roles and Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Emily Blunt are just amazing.<br/><br/>That said, let's be sure about one thing, this movie is a modern Western. If you love a good old days of shoot 'em up for revenge type of flick, a la Clint Eastwood style movie, you are in for a treat. Granted this is not the good ol' west, this the modern day version and holy cow does it deliver.<br/><br/>I'm trying to find a reason to not give it a 10, but I can't. Each set piece is orchestrated with aplomb - a raid on a tunnel under the border being a particular stand out - but Sicario is kept grounded in reality. Villeneuve keeps his focus tight on his small group of characters and though the plot is complex, it fits the Byzantine intricacies of the problem and the obscure motivations of the operators.
